The residual current device serves to protect people and not installations. The moment a person touches it, it creates a circuit with the ground. The current instead of staying in the home circuit, uses the human body to go to ground.
The residual current device is a device in your electrical system. It is able to open the circuit, i.e. to interrupt the supply of energy, when the current is accidentally lost.
A residual current device offers protection in case of current leakage but not in case of overvoltage. For this type of problem, a circuit breaker is required instead.
The AC residual current device operates only with alternating current. Almost all civil installations fall into this type.
