Differential blocks are mechanically designed to prevent mismating between the block and the circuit breaker: the rating of the block must always be equal to or greater than that of the circuit breaker. The plastic clamp on the side allows faster mounting of the block on the circuit breaker, and a push-button prevents possible tripping.

It is used to protect human health in the event of a ground fault (electrical leakage) or phase-to-ground electrocution, thus also providing protection against macro electrical shock, both direct and indirect, on exposed persons.

The type A differential block, ensures operation for AC and one-way pulsating type currents.
